Detective Pikachu

A kid’s movie for the modern era

By Mark Jeffs

Detective Pikachu was a pretty good movie. It was entertaining for both kids and adults, plus a pretty good plot line and moral.

Detective Pikachu was very artistic. Pokemon have always been animated and cartoon like. But with Detective Pikachu, they needed more life-like Pokemon to interact with the humans in the story. They did an excellent job at making them realistic without making them absolutely terrifying. The interactions between the humans and the Pokemon were very smooth with awesome animation of the Pokemon.

The main reason for Detective Pikachu is entertainment. The Pokemon were fun and loving for kids. But, it also brought back a sense of nostalgia for adults. Each Pokemon had a personality and were easy to relate to. I feel like I could watch it again and still enjoy it and it won't get too annoying to watch.

Detective Pikachu had good educational value. It was the focal point, but kind of hid in the background behind the action of the movie. Detective Pikachu brought into light, the idea of growing up without a dad that wants to make amends, but the son is closed off and wants nothing to do with the father. Detective Pikachu teaches forgiveness for those that have hurt you and seek for your forgiveness.

The literary value of Detective Pikachu was pretty good. As discussed in the last paragraph, the main conflict was internal. The entire movie was about forgiving and learning to accept Pokemon, or something unknown, into your life.
